Job Description

About the Role:

As a Patient Financial Advocate, you will play a key role in supporting patients by helping them navigate financial assistance programs. Working directly within a hospital setting, you’ll assist uninsured or underinsured patients with applications for state, county, or federal aid—either bedside, in the ER, or occasionally through home visits.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Proactively identify and screen self-pay patients from the hospital census or referrals.

  • Provide eligibility screening for government and charity assistance programs.

  • Conduct bedside or ER interviews when possible; follow up by phone if needed.

  • Initiate and assist patients with the application process for financial aid.

  • Introduce and explain Firstsource services to patients.

  • Accurately document patient information in hospital systems and internal tools.

  • Coordinate with backend Patient Advocate Specialists for seamless patient transition.

  • Conduct follow-up, including potential home visits, as needed.

  • Maintain thorough documentation and logs of all patient interactions.

  • Meet performance goals as set by management.

  • Ensure confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.

Additional Duties:

  • Maintain positive relationships with hospital staff and departments.

  • Report significant trends or issues to management promptly.

  • Support with patient information retrieval when needed (e.g., discharge details, billing).

  • Maintain an organized, professional workspace and uphold all company policies.

  • Comply with Corporate Compliance and Code of Conduct guidelines.

Qualifications:

  • Required: High school diploma or GED.

  • Preferred: 1–3 years of experience in medical billing, coding, eligibility assistance, or a related healthcare field.

  • Strong customer service and communication skills.

  • Basic computer proficiency.

Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to walk, sit, and stand for long periods.

  • May be required to work holidays or outside regular hours.

  • Dress code and work environment may vary by facility.

  • Occasional local travel for patient home visits.
